Teepee (tipis) Motel, Wharton, Tx., originally built in 1947 as the Wigwam Village Motel and abandoned years later. The Wigwam Motels were designed by Frank Redford in the 1930's and of the seven built originally only four remain in existence, In the 1980's one of the locations was used in a remake of "Lolita". Later in 2003 when Byron Woods, a diesel mechanic, won $49 million in the Texas lottery he bought the motel for his wife and the TeePee Motel was restored and opened for business in 2006. |
